Creating the Ball of the Hammer

We'll prepare to add the ball of the hammer.

Additional tools.

  • Bandglue
  • Untangle (9.2 or BG conform in earlier versions)

Select these polys.

"=" for Hide unselected.

Image:HammerB2.gif

Use BandGlue to merge this loop.

Image:HammerB3.gif

Unhide "\" gives us this.

Image:HammerB4.gif

Now we want to merge these groups of polys.

Image:HammerB5.gif

And delete the points.

Image:HammerB6.gif

To give us these four polys.

Image:HammerB7.gif

Use ExtenderPlus and add two segments. Also use the stretch tool to scale each segment.

Image:HammerB8.gif

Delete half of the object.

Image:HammerB9.gif

Now let's fix the edge so it has a loop. Draw this line to the point.

Image:HammerB10.gif

Weld the two points.

Image:HammerB11.gif

Merge these polys.

Image:HammerB12.gif

Then draw the edge loop with the Add Edges tool.

Image:HammerB13.gif

Use the Drag (Ctrl-t) tool to fan out these edges.

Now mirror and select these polys.

Image:HammerB15.gif

Flatten them on the Z.

Add one more segment with ExtenderPlus.

Merge polys.

Untangle tool. (9.2)

Note: Alternate method for pre-9.2 is to put a 16-sided disc in a background layer and use BG Conform.

Now with a perfect circle you can extend it like so with ExtenderPlus.

And terminate the end in quads.

I did a little tweaking to some of the edges. Loosen them up a bit.

Image:HammerB22.gif

And tweaked this curve. (All using the DragNet tool)

Here is the final result.
