The Plugins can be downloaded from here, and are added as plugins in the usual way. Download both the Hairblade plugin and the Hairblade utils plugin. Hairblade web page

These plugins consist of a number of utilities.

CurveToBlade which converts a LightWave Curve into a Hairblade Custom Polygon object. This can also be applied to a blade, to change some of its global settings.

HairBladeManager which is used to manage the profiles which you're going to be using in your extrusions.

BladeEdit which is used to change settings along the Blade.

HairBladeDisplayLevel which changes how the Blade is displayed in the viewports.

BladeFreeze which converts Blades into standard Polygons.

To start, draw out a simple spline curve. This is the basis for your extrusion. Open the CurveToBlade panel.

If you have a Blade selected, this panel will have check boxes alongside each setting, so you can selectively alter particular settings for that Blade. Blade Type Normally if set to Polygon, the Blade will be drawn as the solid extrusion in Solid viewports, and a poly line in Wireframe views. If this is set to Line, it will have the profiles drawn along the extrusion too.
Divide Level will subdivide the Blade this number of times per segment, so as to give a smoother result.
