Vista doesn't have "Documents and Settings": instead settings are held in c:/Users. Within this folder is a clearly visible subfolder named "Public" which does hold a copy of the LW cfg files. HOWEVER, these are not the files that LW actually addresses when it runs. This is what threw me. After some searching, I discovered the windows account folders (c/users/accname) are hidden, and the relevent cfg files are also hidden within these. Once located, it was instantly obvious that somehow, LW8.cfg had become read-only, as we both suspected. It was simply a question of finding it.
