Wind items affect dynamic items, with the dynamic item's Resistance setting determining how strongly they are affected in comparison to each other. A dynamic item with no resistance will not be affected by wind.

Mode

  • Group: Controls which Dynamics Group this effect belongs to. If you have lots of dynamics in your scene, you can speed up calculation by having only one wind affect your shirt for example.
  • Wind Mode: This determines the direction particles or dynamic items will move when affected by the wind. It has the following modes:
    • Direction - The wind blows in the direction of the Vector given in the Vector tab. Good for a windy day for example.
    • Explosion - The wind blows outwards, or inwards, depending on the Power setting, positive power for out, negative power for in.
    • Rotation(y) - The wind swirls particles around its local centre, upwards. The orientation of the wind item affects this.
    • Cylinder Explosion - The particles will blow out from the local y central axis.
    • Turbulence - The wind blows in different directions in different places. It uses the Turbulence Size in the Vector Tab to determine the maximum strength in different directions, and the Turbulence vector to determine the overall direction of the turbulence.
    • Doughnut - The wind will swirl particles around in a doughnut shape, useful for mushroom clouds.
    • Drag - The wind will act against the particles direction of motion, useful for particles in thick substances.
    • Random - This will blow particles in completely random directions, like dust motes swirl around.
    • Vortex - Swirls the particles in little loops.
    • Sticky Wind -
    • Hemi Sphere - Makes the wind a hemi-sphere in shape
    • Path - Makes the particles follow the path of the wind item.
    • Animation Path - Uses nulls parented to it to define a spline shape which can be animated to give typhoon effects. The rotation of the nulls to twist the particles' path.

  • Blend mode: - This sets how the wind interacts with other wind effects. It has
    • Add - Add this wind to any others in the scene.
    • Max - Uses the wind with the highest strength to control the particles.
    • Overwrite - Uses this wind over all others to control the particles.
    • Heavy wind - Ignores the weight value of the particles.
  • Size Effect: - determines what effect the Size of the wind item has on the wind. It can be
    • Wind - in which the size is multiplied by the strength to animate the wind.
    • Region - where the area of the wind is controlled by the size.
  • Falloff Mode: - Controls how the wind strength tapers off as you get away from the pivot of the wind item. This can be
    • Linear - Wind strength falls from the Power to 0 over the Radius value.
    • Inverse Distance - Wind strength falls from the Power to 0 over the Radius value, but is stronger closer in and weaker closer to the Radius.
    • OFF - Wind strength is the same wherever the particle is.
    • Distance - Wind strength increases the further you get away from the wind item.
  • Radius: - Used in the Falloff mode as described above.
  • Power: - The maximum strength of the wind.

Vector

These vectors control the direction and strength of the wind in association with the Power value.

  • Wind: Controls the overall wind direction.
  • Turbulence Size:Determines how quickly the turbulence changes over distance.
  • Turbulence:Controls the turbulence direction.

Etc

  • Copy, Paste, Load, Save: Allow you to do this with the settings of the wind object.
  • Full Wind Evaluation:Gives a more accurate but slower calculation involving all wind objects.
  • Draw All Wind:???
  • Draw Style:
    • Auto - Draws a grid of little lines with dots on the source end to indicate the strength and direction of the wind at that point in space when selected, or just one long line when the wind is deselected.
    • Details - Draws the grid of lines all the time.
    • Outline - Draws the long line all the time.
    • Details and Outline - Draws both all the time.
  • Grid: - Controls the number of elements in the grid used above.
